Effective and Efficient uses of Multimedia
for teaching, tutorials, and training

Definition of multimedia:  Media and content delivered through text, audio, still images, animation, and video.   

Focus for Four Educational Common Places

Teacher:  We will focus on the major multimedia options available for teachers to use in the classroom.  This section will analyze the pros and cons of various options and will include 2 sample lesson plans to demonstrate 1) how teachers could use multimedia to enhance and lesson and 2) how students can use multimedia in a lesson or project.

Student: Here, we will focus on student use of multimedia and its benefits for student learning.  We will discuss engagement and motivation when using multimedia for learning.  Also, we will discuss how the use of multimedia teaches students technological skills that will be useful in the workplace.

Subject Matter:   We will show the benefits of using multimedia to enhance lessons in various subject matters as well as how it can be used for training and tutorial purposes for each of our learning environments.

Context:  The main focus here will be on demonstrating the benefits and potential concerns of multimedia use in a variety of contexts.  We will address any preparation and precautions that should be taken to create the most effective use of multimedia.  We will consider grade level, facilities available, and skill levels of each user.

• Gyoung Kim:   Innovative hardware and software for touch screen computing system such as the iPad.
  

• Rashad Muhammad: The use of Web 2.0 technology to package and distribute multimedia content to the world.

• Provide links to research articles, products and tutorials, and sites using the multimedia in the classroom.
